Why I am Running for School Board

My vision for the school includes continuing to provide a safe environment for students as well as maintaining an atmosphere that nurtures the development of a strong character, personal intellectual achievement and growth as a person. I want to ensure that our students are taught to think critically, globally and with a sense of curiosity. Achieving these goals requires actively engaging in communication with teachers, parents and administration, championing innovation in the classroom and understanding curriculum objectives and how best to make budget decisions that align with those desired outcomes.
Additionally, K-8 schools face some challenges in defining the middle school. I will research and strive to generate ideas on how to keep our middle school competitive and attractive to students.
I believe in public schools, in supporting our kids and teachers and a collaborative and communicative approach to achieving success as a school and for our students.
I am passionate about working to meet the needs of ALL students.
I believe EVERY child has a special talent or gift, whether in reading, writing, math, science, art, technology or music. As a parent, community member and educator I will advocate for our children to ensure that they have access to the very best resources in order to reach their greatest individual potential.
I offer a unique perspective to the Sunol Glen School Board as both a parent and an educator who has spent time as a substitute teacher in every Sunol Glen classroom, K-8, over the past year. I have seen first hand the challenges and triumphs of our students and teachers during the roll out of Common Core, electives, physical education and new technology in the classroom.
I have an understanding of our school budget and funding, the LCFF (Local Control Funding Formula), as a member of the LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) Parent Advisory Committee.
I believe in budget transparency and communicating information in a clear and readily understandable way.
I can provide educated and balanced insight when it comes to budget allocation.
I believe in working WITH parents, teachers, administrators and community members to generate the best ideas and strategies for our students and to encourage innovation and creativity in the classroom.
